Reconciliation

Our vision for reconciliation…

…is an Australia that values and acknowledges the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, knowledge, and histories as intrinsic to our national identity and essential to our collective wellbeing, enabling all Australians to live well.

Through our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, we are committed to meaningful actions that contribute to Closing the Gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. The RAP is championed by our CEO and led by the Director of Data & Quality as the Executive Sponsor, with other staff actively participating in the RAP Advisory Group (RAG).

Our key focus areas include:

  • improving access to culturally safe and respectful services, including through our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs
  • building strong relationships with Traditional Owners, Elders, community groups and First Nations services
  • increasing understanding, value and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, knowledge and rights through cultural learning and engaging in significant events, such as National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week
  • demonstrating respect by observing cultural protocols
  • improving employment outcomes by increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander recruitment, retention, and professional development
  • ensuring a respectfully diverse workplace that removes barriers to employment and advancement.

Aligned with our core value of “We leave a positive wake”, we believe the actions we take towards reconciliation will create lasting positive impacts for our clients, team members, and the communities we serve.

In recognition of our efforts, Lives Lived Well received the Michael Kirby Award for Inclusiveness at the 2013 Workforce Innovation Awards for our inclusive recruitment and training practices at the Shanty Creek residential rehabilitation service.
